The new Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act (2017) requires all Albertan workplaces to implement a harassment prevention plan and training their employees about it.
While this law is Albertan, this package applies to most Canadian employers, as most provinces also require employers to implement systems to prevent workplace harassment, bullying and sexual harassment.
National Safety Coordinators have taken the guesswork out of compliance by creating a suite of products for employers to tailor and use to comply with health and safety requirements to prevent workplace harassment (which includes bullying and sexual harassment).
This suite of products includes specialty training for employees which includes:
• What is appropriate and inappropriate workplace behaviour
• How employees should report harassment
• How to respond to harassment
• How the employer will respond to complaints of harassment
• How employees can contribute to a positive team culture
This training includes a quiz to ensure understanding. Employees who successfully complete the quiz receive a certificate which should be retained as proof of successfully completing training.
This training for employees can be purchased separately or as part of National Safety Coordinators’ Creating a positive workplace culture: Workplace harassment prevention program - Premium package, which includes policies/procedures, team talk kits and a consultation guide.
Please visit the premium package if you are looking for a program/system to assist in training your team. The fee is for one employee/worker completing the course. They are issued with a certificate which is valid for 3 years
NSC offers employee/worker training to employers, unions and associations.
For organisations who request more than 100 courses, NSC can tailor the training to meet your specific needs. Call 780.851.8273 for more information.
